Overview: Exhibition lighting design for a regimental museum
Completed: 2013

Refurbishment of Balhousie Castle with new gallery layouts telling the 300-year regimental story of The Black Watch from inception to the modern day.

Thirteen new galleries, each representing different eras of military campaigns, tell the history of one of Scotland’s elite regiments not just from an historical perspective but from a personal point of view too.

Low ceilings in the ground floor galleries required miniature LED spotlights. Many of the First-Floor galleries were balanced with daylight as full height windows were retained, allowing the architecture of the building to remain on display and preserving views from the castle. Bespoke display cases throughout the museum have lighting specifically designed for each case and the particular artefacts on display.
