Govan Gathering Light
2003.

Client:  Roots in the Community/Linthouse Housing Association

An ever-changing visualisation of possible uses for an unused shopfront in Linthouse, Glasgow.

Part of the inaugural Govan Gathering Light celebrations of winter 2003.

The Linthouse Urban Village (LUV) project had previously canvassed the local community for their opinion on what kind of shops and facilities they would like to see evolving in their neighbourhood.  This simple lighting installation carried the idea forward and presented possible worlds.

Projections filled the windows of a shop, suggesting uses for the space. Observers were invited to comment and post a “LUV” letter through the shop letterbox explaining their aspirations for the local streets.  The projection arrangement allowed for real-time life-sized images to move between both windows.
